Today is Betsy’s Senior Prom with South Forsyth High School. The weather forecast for today was rain, rain, and more rain. As I was preparing to go to photograph Betsy, I was thinking what a terrible weather day it would be for her. But no, the skies opened up by the time I got to her house.

Here she is on her porch.

John came over shortly to pick up his date.

Here’s a quick fun moment.

And a few headshots of Betsy before they’re off to the party.

I first post about Katie here. Today is her Prom with South Forsyth High School. I also found out, today is her first day of job training. Poor Katie, it must have been quite a day to remember. Below are two of my favorites, but you can view them all here. Special thanks to Austin and Jacob for assisting with the lights.

What guy doesn’t love this movie, Gone in Sixty Seconds? Well, here’s the mustang inspired by the movie’s Shelby Mustang GT, nicknamed Eleanor. The Ronaele is Eleanor spelled backwards. You can see all the pictures here.

IMG_0194.jpg

I’ve photographed a few cars in the past while it’s revving. But the Ronaele just plain ROARS. There’s no way to hold a camera steady with that kind of power under the hood. That’s why the picture isn’t tack sharp, the vibration of the Ronaele is just too intense. But I like it that way, it kinda represents the real life feeling.

IMG_0206.jpg

Unlike the movie, this mustang is red. Yes, the black paint seems to be missing in some letters of the badge in the picture below. I like to think it’s because the acceleration blew off the paint.

IMG_0244.jpg

I love the exhaust here. And what’s not to like about those 285/30ZR20’s.

IMG_0252.jpg

OK, enough of the static detail shots. This 450R horse was built to be driven.

Today was the 9th Annual Pure Fashion Show. This is the second year that I’ve had the privilege to photograph the fashion show under Ben Vigil Photography. I’ve posted about Pure Fashion before here and here, so I don’t want to be repetitive. This year, it was another great show.

Lindee Link opened the show with a wonderful performance.

And Carried Away performed a great set of Christian music.

Through the help of Make-A-Wish Foundation, Heather Holtry was able to showcase her own design that will be auctioned off for charity after the show. Heather is battling chronic, disseminated, late-stage Lyme Disease and her wish is to have her design shown in a Pure Fashion Show. Below is Heather.

And here are two of her own designs of modest gowns.

Nicholas is now one year old and I feel like I’ve watched him grown. That’s because his parents are fanatics about taking his pictures. I’ve seen his online photo gallery and I think there’s at least a picture of him per day he’s been born. Here’s a few quick snaps of him at a nearby park. More to come later.

Ok, I try not to do a lot of gear talk on my blog, but after my friend Bob allowed me to try out his new 85mm f/1.2 II lens, I had to post some results.

Here’s two pictures shot at f/1.2

IMG_4240.jpg

IMG_4169.jpg

Outside, it was too bright to shoot wide open, I shot this one at f/1.4.

IMG_4985.jpg

And here’s one stopped down a bit at f/2.

IMG_4548.jpg

One last shot at f/1.2.

IMG_4580.jpg

So, what’s my opinion on it? First, it’s a solid lens. Many will say it’s heavy, but I think it perfectly balanced my camera (with the grip). I only tried this lens out pretty much wide open, so I didn’t stop it down but I suspect it only gets better stopped down. Being such a fast lens, I was always impressed that I didn’t have to reach for the flash in doors.

However, it does take a lot of shots to make sure you got it right when shooting at such a thin DOF at f/1.2. The focusing is slow which makes it not a great lens for sports. But, I never thought I would use this sports. And finally, there’s purple fringing shooting it wide open.

It’s not every year that Atlanta gets snow. But this year, we just had our second snow storm. In fact, it’s the second snow storm in the same week! The kids are loving it. First, the snow angel in the fresh snow.

Then, it’s snow boogie time!
