So the company I work for has just sold over a 100 Million Units. That’s quite an achievement that we’re all proud of. But this isn’t a story about work, it’s about getting an excuse to party.

So, where did we go after our 100 Million Party at the great Biltmore? The Gordon Biersch.

    IMG_5965.jpg

It’s within walking distance of the Biltmore with a great atmosphere and a set of pool tables. Naturally, we all felt like we were good at playing eight-ball.

    IMG_5968.jpg

Well, maybe after some drinks first.

    IMG_5990.jpg

After that, we were all natural pool sharks.

Today was the 8th Annual Pure Fashion Show. Ben Vigil invited me to come photograph the event. Being my first fashion show, I was amazed at everything that was put into making such a great show.

The Everlife Band came to entertain, and that they did.

SPRING BREAK – It’s that time of the year again and since we had a quick sneak peak at Myrtle Beach, SC a few weeks ago, the kids were very much in beach mode. So, after my friend mentioned Destin during a friendly game of cards, we decided to hook up for spring break in Florida.

Before we left town, the weather forecast was pretty bleak… rain all week down in Destin. With nothing else to do for spring break, we decided to chance it. We got there late in the afternoon after catching down during the travel down. Things were clearing up just a bit. After meeting up with Jeff, we were determine that we were going to at least see the beach, even if it’s double red flag warning level and no one else was on the beach.

    IMG_7063.jpg

All we could do was to just head out to a nice dinner. The next morning started out the same, a very isolated and quiet beach.

    IMG_7140.jpg

It would only be hours later when mass chaos would appear.

    IMG_7215.jpg

But let’s not get too far ahead here. The beach was still under double red flag warning. So, the kids decided to just start digging a hole in the beach.

    IMG_7153.jpg

    and dig….

    IMG_7164.jpg

    and dig…

    IMG_7210.jpg

and even the little ones were digging…

    IMG_7260.jpg

In between digging, they decided to take a little dip in the waters.

    IMG_7182.jpg

In the evening, we did more beach things.

    IMG_7329.jpg

like hunting for sand crabs. The kids found a few, but it must not be crab season.

    IMG_7330.jpg

By the end of our trip, the kids dug a big hole.

    IMG_7355.jpg

But others that gave up on digging, just decided to enjoy the day under the umbrella.

It’s contagious. After we bought our Odyssey, someone else in the family had to one-up us with a new sporty Inifiniti G35. Just got a chance to take a few quick snapshots.

  • Odyssey II

We did it, bought a 2nd Honda Odyssey. Austin calls our first Odyssey, Odyssey I. So, this is Odyssey II.

    IMG_6556.jpg

This is the Honda Odyssey EX-L R&N. That’s new territory for us, the most expensive car/truck we ever bought. Our bargaining technique was to broadcast, via email, all the Honda dealerships nearby. This included some in the outskirts of great Atlanta. I basically gave them the price I wanted to buy at, something reasonable based on the best quote I got a year ago. Since then, the invoice price has gone up $500 for the 2007, but I kept pushing for the best 2006 quote I got a year ago.

Slowly, the quotes started coming down, each with explaination why they can’t go lower and how demand for the R&N option is way up. When the quote was $500 more than my asking price, the dealers started to drop off saying they can’t do better, so they claim. I kept pushing with the remaining dealers. Finally, I got better than my asking price by $100 and they threw in the rear splash guards. Once I got commitment on the phone, we finally drove to the dealership.

    IMG_6554.jpg

So, of we went to pick it up. This says 54 miles, but we picked it up with only 7 miles.

    IMG_6559.jpg

Seeing my friends buy their cars using the same email/internet technique, I have to say that I’m sold on it. There was no sales pressure you have to deal with. If you feel pressured on email, just wait a few hours before responding.

One of the important things to me is the new safety features. Side curtain airbags throughout.

    IMG_6564.jpg

And, every asks, can you fit two Odyssey’s in your garage. BARELY!

The other day, I noticed Alexis was wearing this one-sies, so I had to take a quick snapshot of it. The nice folks at Arrs gave my wife this awesome one-sies for Alexis. It looks really cool on her. Go Arris!

  • How Canon Makes Lenses

For some of my technical buddies that frequent my blog, I thought you would be very interested in a tour of Canon’s factory where they make the awesome lenses I use to photograph everything. It’s a virtual tour, but quite informative. In fact, it kind of reminds me of the Materials class I had in college. Have a look here.

And more generically (not just Canon), here’s another video on how lenses are made:

  • Pure Fashion Hair and Makeup Day

It’s Hair and Makeup Day for the Pure Fashion girls. My good friend Ben Vigil introduced me to Pure Fashion last October when he asked me to cover their opening registration day. At that day, I found out what a wonderful organization Pure Fashion was. Please visit their site for more information about the organization. Today is their hair and makeup day where I got a chance to come in and take head shots for the fashion show in a few months. The event was held at Siggers Hairdressers.

    IMG_4688.jpg

Here’s Amy Siggers herself doing hair for one of the girls. Siggers hairdresser was filled with 82 girsl getting hair and makeup done through out the day.

Once they were done with hair and makeup, the girls headed upstairs where Stanley Leary and I took head shots. Here’s a quick sample of all the beautiful girls there that day.

Over 1400 headshots later, we packed up for the day.

Let me just add one more thing. Not only were these girls patient waiting in long lines for their head shots, they were extreme nice and very considerate. While packing up my equipment, I found a number of ‘thank you’ cards written for me. They were thank you cards from these girls thanking me for taking pictures for them. All I have to say is, their parents must have raised them really well. And I’m sure Pure Fashion had something to do with it too.
